About

Dr. Sylvain Hours

Welcome!

My name is Sylvain Hours, and I teach Economics at Institut le Rosey, an international boarding school in Switzerland.

I’ve been teaching Economics since 2012, working with students at both high school and university levels. Over the years, I’ve taught courses including IB Economics, AP Microeconomics & Macroeconomics, Cambridge IGCSE & A-Level Economics, NCUK IFY Economics, and Economics & Law for the Swiss Maturity. At university, I’ve also taught Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Econometrics, Industrial Organization, Mathematics, Data Analysis, and Labour Economics.

I started my career in academia after completing a PhD in Economics at the University of Montpellier in 2016. After several years of research and university teaching, I realised that what I enjoy most is working directly with students and helping them understand economic concepts in a clear and practical way.

In addition to my classroom teaching, I’ve led workshops for Economics teachers, focusing on essay writing, exam preparation, and classroom strategies that support student learning.

Since 2024, I’ve also worked as an IB Examiner for Economics (Paper 3 and Extended Essays).

In 2019, I created EconDoctor.com to share some of the materials I was developing for my students. Over time, it grew into a broader project with interactive tools and resources now used by thousands of students and teachers worldwide. I continue to run the site on my own, hoping it helps make Economics a bit clearer for learners and saves time for teachers.

If you have a question or just want to say hello, feel free to get in touch. I’m always happy to connect.

Warm regards,
Dr. Sylvain Hours
